Bettie Martinez
April 13, 2009 ~ June 19, 2018
The Martinez Family regret to announce the passing of their beautiful English Bulldog Bettie on Tuesday June 19th 2018 after a brief illness. Bettie will return home to us and be honored in an elegant white urn where she will live forever with our family. Bettie was born on April 13th 2009 the last of a litter, the unselected one, because of her small stature. As the saying goes And though she may be little she is fierce. Bettie encountered challenges early in October of 2009 she developed a case of Parvo and I discovered all her litter siblings had died due to a compromised batch of vaccines. We rushed her to the Vet Hospital and where given a choice the choice you dread. We decided to proceed with all the possible options and hospitalized her. We all took turns visiting our small family member every day so she knew she wasnt alone. She survived and thrived to go on to be a healthy miracle girl. What I remember most is she never cried out, whimpered or barked. Bettie Loved to go on outings, she loved to travel, especially to the beach or to go pick out our annual tree for Christmas. On one occasion on a trip to the beach Bettie had a run in with a jelly fish and lost most of her hair on her chest and neck from the burn. Again in an instance that I know was painful she never fussed she was so tough and strong. Betties love and care stretched to her toys and her belongings. She took care of everything that was important to her. Unlike any other dog I know her toys look like new, she never wanted to ruin them. The same goes for her bed or blanket she was so meticulous. Bettie loved her family and was there when my children were pre teen and teens, a difficult time. Bettie was the consoler and unconditional love giver we all needed. Bettie and my youngest daughter had a special bond and she was able to share a special moment with Bettie before the illness took her. For my husband and myself there have been many trying and difficult times and Bettie provided the happiness we so desperately needed. Bettie became my fur baby when my own children left the house and became adults. She would look at me with such devotion and would be by my side always. Nothing speaks to the love that Bettie exuded more than her partnership with her dog companion Burger, 2 yrs her senior he was her pack leader, her man. He taught her the ropes when she arrived in our home and they were fast friends. She soothed him and had an effect on him that will be irreplaceable. In her last moments where in life she never whimpered, moaned or barked in pain. I noticed simple tears on her final night as if she knew she would be leaving. She always cared for us even in the end. My husband Anthony and I were with her when she slipped away, she was not alone. My sweet baby girl couldnt hold on anymore and we held her until the last moment. Her gentleness and expressiveness is unforgettable and will be truly missed. We are grateful to our family & friends who have sent prayers and messages. We are thankful for those who had a chance to help out with Bettie over the years. Please keep us in your thoughts as we grieve our Bettie.
