HR Catherine’s Dolly Nichol (Dolly): born April 17, 1994 — died March 20 2007

Dear Dr’s Hey, Book and Randall,

I wanted to thank you three from the bottom of my heart for the care, positive attitudes and grand attempt to bring little Dolly back from the devastation that had taken hold of her. Special thanks to Dr. Mata and the Techs also, as they were so kind and caring for my little girl during her last days. On Tuesday morning March 20th Dolly Nichol died. She was stricken with pancreatitis a week and a half before. In spite of all Dr. Hey and staff at Deerfield Animal Hospital could do and in spite of all you guys at Sonterra did, Dolly could just not beat the ravages of the disease. The Lord and we know how hard we tried. I know I, and I believe Dolly, would want the same efforts made if we were to do it all again.

Dolly held the Hunter Retriever title from the United Kennel Club for her success at retriever hunt tests. She and her sister, Brownie, ran Quail Unlimited Bird Dog Challenge hunt tests with Howard for three years when they lived in Tennessee. In those tests, dog and hunter enter a 20 acre field in search of 3 birds. Points are scored on style, flushing ability, retrieving, and time. Dolly and Brownie never finished a trial in any place but 1st and 2nd during the three years they competed. Dolly, with Howard and Brownie, hunted pheasant in South Dakota; dove, duck and goose in Tennessee and Texas from the time she was 1 year old through this last season. In spite of all her rough and tumble outdoor life, Dolly was the sweetest kindest house dog you could ask for. Two days before she died, when she could still move around and wag her tail a little, she sat in my lap on the floor at Deerfield. She kissed my lips and laid her head on my shoulder. I will miss her so much.
