Even the day before your death, you brought me the frayed white thing and asked me to toss it in the air as if you understood I needed our ritual as much as you.

You have forever changed the shape of air in the house, left ghosts curled on every chair and bed. I will miss pressing my temple against yours, the way I rested my mind in the small comforting hollows of your skull, whispering: wise, fierce protecting elder boundary keeper friend.
