You lived completely in the joy of your body as dogs do.
Over time the leaps to catch your favorite cord of rope traveled from four feet straight up in the air to back legs not leaving the ground. Even the day before your death, you brought me the frayed white thing and asked me to toss it in the air as if you understood I needed our ritual as much as you.
You have forever changed the shape of air in the house, left ghosts curled on every chair and bed. I will miss pressing my temple against yours, the way I rested my mind in the small comforting hollows of your skull, whispering: wise, fierce protecting elder boundary keeper friend.
