Jessie Burnett

My husband and I will always remember the first time we saw our dear sweet Jessie on July 22, 2002. Jessie was nine months old and full of energy. She ran to snatch a ball in the kennel she shared with another large dog at the SA Humane Society in the old Jones Ave location. She threw it in the air and then ran and got it again, as if to say, I can play ball with you. Pick me! After 15 wonderful years, it was so hard to say goodbye. Over the years, we took a trip to Lost Maples, trips to Hardberger Park, and daily walks in the neighborhood. Jessie loved little children and saw many grow up. She had her favorite adults and loved it when they walked out to pet her. When her old buddy, Ralfie dog passed away she mourned him—looked everywhere for him. She went with us to select a new buddy, Charlie who survives her. When she could no longer walk, she loved wagon rides through the neighborhood. When she could only walk to the end of the cul-de-sac, she would lie down on the yard at the corner and wait for someone to drive by, stop and visit, then get up and headed back home. We must express our gratitude to the person who lovingly turned her over to the SA Humane Society. She never chewed on our furniture and only chewed one sprinkler head. She did go through many Nylabones. Jessie was the perfect dog for two retirees. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
